REVIEW
I know what she did last summer.
I enjoyed Lingering Echoes. I would definitely recommend it as one of the better New Adult reads, and Lord knows there are some doozies out there already, even in such a new genre. I didn't find it quite the blub-fest I was expecting, though, it has to be said—certainly not in the same way as Sea of Tranquility, which it's been compared to, but it was close.
Allie is spending the summer in her father's cabin retreat with his new wife and her new "brother". Though she tries to put on a brave face, the situation is less than ideal. Firstly, brother dear is a complete butt nugget, and second, it's the very last place she wants to be as it holds some painful and shameful memories from the summer before.
After some fairly obvious foreshadowing, we meet love interest Damien. In true New Adult fashion he displays some unnervingly stalker-like tendencies, before ultimately revealing his true nature. Which was, I'm glad to report, that of a very nice young man. Crap, I sound old! He has some dark secrets of his own, of course, which take a while to come to the surface. Allie and Damien's relationship develops well; they're both very sweet people. And the plot builds up to a dramatic and thrilling conclusion.
All together, an enjoyable read and a welcome addition to any New Adult lover's shelf.
