Synopsis: Two decades ago, assassin Katherine Zhang faked her death to escape the Keepers, a secret council of witches who use magic to kill those who pose a threat to their kind. Once a powerful Keeper, she lives a solitary—but peaceful—life as a tattoo artist. Until a strange, handsome lone wolf named Marcus Delgado walks into her shop.
Marcus has his own reasons to hate the Keepers. A scientist who sacrificed himself to test the fragile boundaries between witch and wolf, he believes there's a way to harness the combustible power between the two species. If he succeeds, he'll be protected from the Keepers, but he needs a willing partner—and the delicious Katie just might be the perfect test subject.
Katie knows working with a wolf, an adversary she's undeniably attracted to, is a dangerous proposition...no matter how tempting she finds Marcus's proposal. But when a common enemy from their past threatens them both, working together might be the only option.
REVIEW
Smack your witch up.
Yowzer! Did I not just finish telling you how explicitly sexy book one in this series, Pack and Coven, was? Well, clearly I spoke too soon, because this one just ratcheted that up a whole 'nother level! Hoowee! Again, it was a little too much for me, personally, but in this instance, it kind of fit the storyline as the effect of arousal in a witch is explored by our nerdalicious werewolf scientist hero!
Katie is a witch on the run. A former Keeper (assassin of witches who've transitioned to werewolves), she's left that life behind and taken up residence under various guises as a tattoo artist, along with her father and good friend. Enter transitioned werewolf Marcus. As part of his mission to prove wolves can transition back the other way, he's sees the perfect guinea pig in convex witch Katie, who would be able to withstand his sexy experiments. Oh, what's that you say, Katie? You don't want to go with Marcus and be his love slave? Well, pfft! What's a little kidnapping between lovers, hmm? And so, our hero whisks Katie off to his secret lab in the woods and proceeds to convince her that not all science has to be dull...
There is a slight undercurrent of Stockholm Syndrome in Witch Interrupted as you might have surmised from my description, but it actually worked in a weird and wacky way. The relationship between Katie and Marcus, as strange and dysfunctional as it started out, actually developed into an engaging romance that was believable and emotive. I loved all of the action and the complexity of the plot, and it was great to see past couple Harry and June make an appearance as well.
For me, the only downside to these books is the fact that I'm a total wuss when it comes to anything resembling erotica. And Marcus and Katie's explorations of pain during sex (spanking) and restraints was a step beyond my comfort level. Still, it was another gripping page-turner and one I have no regrets at all about reading.
